In this paper, we tested the effectiveness of reappraisal strategies for emotion regulation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Across a global sample, we found that brief reappraisal interventions, such as reconstrual and repurposing, significantly reduced negative emotions and increased positive emotions compared to control conditions. Both interventions were similarly effective, and importantly, they did not reduce participants' intentions to follow preventive health behaviors. These findings highlight the potential of scalable, low-cost emotional interventions to support mental health during global crises.
