Understanding the neural bases of social cognition in dogs offers insights into the evolutionary origins of human social abilities. This paper reviews dog fMRI studies exploring brain regions involved in visual social cognition, highlighting the significant role of the temporal cortex. We also address key challenges in the field and propose solutions to strengthen the domestic dog's role as a comparative model species.
